"FOSTERED IDEAL"
Written by Bradley Vile
Directed by Sally Simon
Drama; 25 min.
Fostered Ideal is a unique four person drama about the dichotomy between the "ideal" family and what really goes on behind closed doors. The four characters, mom, dad, daughter and son, speak to the audience rather than to each other allowing them to reveal their inner thoughts as the story of the family unravels. Set over several decades, the themes of coming of age, trying to please a parent, marital disillusionment, and sexual abuse are timeless. The ages ranges of the parents are mid 30s-mid 40s. The daughter should be able to appear 14-16 and the son, 10-14.
"PROFILES"

WILL...30-45, smart, witty, funny
KENNY...30-45, typical macho male, thinks of women as objects
AMY...30-45, Will's best friend, funny, smart
This is primarily a two-character play (WILL and AMY). KENNY is a small role that is featured in the first five minutes of the play only, but is mentioned frequently thereafter.
WILL and AMY are both smart and witty, and have been best friends for two years. They know each other well and have a playful way of joking with each other.
KENNY is a typical macho guy who thinks of women as objects. He's crass, and not very sensitive or politically correct. KENNY has been friends with WILL for many years and once dated AMY for seven months.
The plot revolves around the relationship between AMY and WILL. WILL has just decided to join an online dating service, egged on by KENNY. AMY has come to discover she has feelings for WILL that go beyond friendship and tries to convince him to change their relationship from friends to lovers. WILL, being a cautious sort, fears they will lose the friendship if things don't work out.
